Whose Holidays Are They?
The Jewish Character of The Biblical Festivals
As more Christians and Messianic believers discover the feasts and holidays of the Bible, they often incorporate them into their lives and rhythms. That is something to celebrate.
But there’s a common phrase in these circles that needs to be challenged:
“These are not Jewish holidays, they’re God’s holidays.”
On the surface, I understand what many people are trying to say. The feasts in the Bible, the moedim, or appointed times, are rooted in God’s own calendar. And yes, there is ample evidence in both the Old and New Testaments that suggests these days hold meaning and significance for more than just the Jewish people.
Yet when people say, “these are not Jewish holidays,” or when they downplay the strong Jewish connection to these holy days, they are minimizing or even erasing something essential, something Scripture itself emphasizes.
